New Year, New Gear: My Hasselblad X2D 100c Journey

Updated: 2 days ago

I finally pulled the trigger—I got a Hasselblad X2D 100c within the first 10 days of 2025! As a longtime photography enthusiast, owning a Hasselblad has been a dream of mine. Though I missed the chance to own one of their iconic film cameras in the past (I do have a 500 C/M now), this acquisition feels like the culmination of years of anticipation.

For years, I’d envisioned consolidating my photography gear closer to retirement, aiming to own just one Hasselblad camera with one or two lenses and a Leica Q2. That plan accelerated when an opportunity presented itself today, and I couldn’t resist. Consequently, I’ve decided to sell my current Fuji GFX gear to make room for this exciting new chapter.

Why Hasselblad? 8 Reasons Behind My Decision

Here are the eight reasons that motivated me to finally make the leap to Hasselblad:

  1. A Legendary Brand I’ve Always Wanted to Try. Hasselblad is the last legendary brand on my bucket list. As a photographer, exploring its heritage and quality has always been a goal.

  1. Improved Autofocus System. The X2D 100c boasts phase detection autofocus (PDAF), a significant upgrade from its predecessor. This improvement addresses one of the concerns that held me back in the past.

  1. Exceptional Color Science. I’ve struggled to find the perfect color profiles with other camera brands. Hasselblad’s renowned color science promises to bring my creative vision to life.

  1. A Focus on Portraiture. My next photography journey will focus exclusively on portraiture. Having the best tools in hand, like the X2D 100c, will help me create stunning works with no more excuses.

  1. Lightweight Medium Format. Compared to other medium-format systems like the Pentax 645z and Fuji GFX100, Hasselblad offers a more lightweight and portable option—a practical advantage for long sessions.

  1. Internal 1TB SSD Storage. The convenience of built-in 1TB SSD storage is a game-changer. It ensures I’ll never run out of space during important shoots.

  1. Leaf Shutter with High Sync Speed. The leaf shutter is a standout feature for me, offering high sync speeds that are invaluable for studio work and outdoor portrait sessions.

  1. A Treat to Myself. Life is short, and I believe in rewarding myself for years of hard work. This camera is more than just a tool; it’s a personal milestone.

Gears vs. Vision

There’s a common saying in photography: “The most important thing is the head behind the lens, not the gear.” While I wholeheartedly agree, I also know that new gear inspires me and rekindles my passion. If I can’t change the head behind the lens, upgrading the tools in my hands is the next best thing.

What’s Next?

Once I’ve had some time with the X2D 100c, I’ll be sharing a detailed user review. Stay tuned for my impressions and the results of my first shoots with this extraordinary camera. Here’s to a year of creativity and capturing life’s beautiful moments!
